ABOUT BOARD CERTIFICATION

Attorneys Johns S. Bingham and J. David Miller are certified as civil trial specialists by the Tennessee Commission on Board Certification and Specialization.  In order to become a civil trial specialist in Tennessee, a lawyer must be certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.  Certification by the National Board of Trial Advocacy is a credential above and beyond a license to practice law.  It tells the public and other attorneys that the lawyer has an enhanced level of skill and expertise in trial advocacy and has demonstrated integrity and dedication to the interests of his clients.

In order to become board certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy, a lawyer must be a member of the bar of his state in good standing.  He must demonstrate a concentration in the area of specialty and show that he has participated in a number of trials or other matters as the lead lawyer in the case.  He must receive recommendations from other attorneys and judges and must also participate in continuing legal education.  Finally, he must pass a written exam demonstrating his competency.  Mr. Bingham and Mr. Miller have been certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.  For more information about board certification by the National Board of Trial Advocacy, click here.

Certifications of specialization are available to Tennessee lawyers in all areas of practice relating to or included in the areas of civil trial, criminal trial, business bankruptcy, consumer bankruptcy, creditors' rights, medical malpractice, accounting malpractice, legal malpractice, elder law and estate planning. Listing of related or included areas of practice herein does not constitute or imply a representation of specialization certification.  For more information about board certification in Tennessee, click here.
