How can I safely dispose of my unused medicines?

It's highly likely that at some point during your lifetime you will need to take some sort of medication. Whether the medication is over-the-counter or prescribed by a doctor, you still need to know how to dispose of unused medication. We will provide you with some very important tips for disposing of your unused medications in today's post.

If you need to dispose of unused medication and there is no law enforcement "drug take-back day" scheduled or there are no other authorized collection sites in your area, you can throw the unused medications in the trash. In order to do this you must follow the following steps:

  1. Be sure to mix the medications with either dirt, cat litter or coffee grounds. Do not crush the pills.
  2. Place this mixture of medication and substance in a sealable bag or container so it does not leak.
  3. You can toss the container with the medication in the trash.
  4. Before you throw your empty medication containers in the trash you should rip off the label or black out any identifying information about you.

There are some medications that should be flushed down the toilet due to their strength. Check with your doctor or local pharmacy before flushing any drugs down the toilet.

If you need to get rid of old inhalers or other aerosol products, be sure to contact your local trash center before doing so. These are highly flammable items that likely need to be recycled in a specific manner.

What should you do with unused medication in Kingsport? You have various options, including law enforcement drug take-back days, which are scheduled throughout the year. For defective drug information, be sure to consult an experienced defective drugs attorney.
