Tennessee truck driver grounded for lack of license

A truck driver licensed in Tennessee has been ordered to stop driving by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). The FMCSA shut the driver down from driving after he continued to operate his truck after a trailer came disconnected from it, causing the death of another driver.

The incident in question occurred on Aug. 3 on Tennessee State Route 305. When the trailer on the truck disconnected, it crossed the center of the highway and hit another truck. The truck that was hit veered off the road and into a ditch. It then went up an embankment before it overturned. The truck driver in the overturned vehicle died on the scene, according to authorities.

The driver of the truck that lost the trailer continued to operate until the police were able to stop him. Controlled substances were discovered in his truck and he subsequently tested positive for them. When the crash occurred, the driver had been operating on a revoked CDL. He was also missing a valid medical certificate.

The trucking logs that the driver recorded for the months of June and July were discovered to have been falsified. The driver falsely recorded that he drove for two companies when in fact he did not. In the two previous years, he was cited multiple times for violations in his log and for driving his commercial vehicle that had been equipped with radar.
