The most commonly misdiagnosed medical conditions

On Behalf of | Mar 1, 2019 | Firm News, medical malpractice |

Going to the doctor is supposed to make you feel better, both emotionally and physically. You schedule an appointment to be seen and hope that the doctor will make a proper diagnosis so that you can be treated accordingly. Here are the most commonly misdiagnosed medical conditions of patients in Tennessee and the rest of the country.

The most commonly misdiagnosed conditions include the following:

  • Heart attack
  • Cancer
  • Celiac disease
  • Depression
  • Lyme disease
  • Stroke
  • Thyroid issues
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Pulmonary embolism
  • Aortic dissection

Even with all of the education, training and equipment available to doctors today, it is still possible for doctors to misdiagnose their patients. That’s why you need to ask plenty of questions of your doctor, do your own research and always seek a second opinion from an unaffiliated doctor.

How do I know if I have been misdiagnosed? There are a couple of ways you can spot misdiagnosis. One such way is that the medicine you’ve been prescribed has not worked to improve your condition, or your condition has worsened.

You can also discover misdiagnosis when you realize your doctor did not conduct all of the tests available for your specific condition before making a diagnosis. A doctor should run a complete panel of diagnostic tests before making a diagnosis of a disease like cancer or a pulmonary embolism.

As you can see, there are a lot of conditions that are easily misdiagnosed in the medical world. You will want to get a second and even third opinion of your condition to determine what is actually wrong with your health.
